Venezuelan Oil and Democracy

Though no plans have been "fleshed out in detail," Trump administration officials have hinted at a possible U.S. military intervention in support of efforts to unseat Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. If the U.S. were to do so, it would not be the first time we sent our arms or our troops to an oil-rich nation in the name of democracy. (Venezuela has the world's largest proven oil reserves.) In this letter to the New York Times, I urge that we consider more peaceful means of building toward a sustainable energy future.
