More Cars Than Ever, But What About Transit?

Yesterday Massachusetts officials begrudgingly signaled that the Green Line extension through Cambridge, Somerville, and Medford can reapply for federal approval. (About $1 billion of the $2.3 billion price tag of this project is to be covered by the federal government.) This is a welcome though much-delayed victory for a key transit project that promises to bring economic, air quality, and mobility benefits to some of the Commonwealth's most crowded communities. I wrote about this in a Globe Letter to the Editor today.
